Even though São Paulo is much richer than Manaus we both noticed that the São Paulo one wasn’t quite finished.
When you went inside there was a very smart marble staircase but then you had to go through this tunnel made of cheap wood and clearly not finished. When we got into our seats we immediately noticed the scaffolding which was holding us up. Every time English fans chanted and stamped their feet the floor beneath us shook. We were both quite scared but soon forgot about it when the teams came out.
We could also see the favelas through the corner of the stadium which might explain why there were riots here last week.
