It was like watching Arsenal in the FA cup semi final against Wigan all over again as hosts Brazil had to face Chile in the first penalty shoot out of this World Cup.
Following England’s disappointing exit I have been supporting Brazil because we were there and met so many friendly people who were so passionate about their national team. So I put on my yellow shirt and cheered them on as well as feeling almost as nervous as watching Arsenal or England.
After a tight, exhilarating game, at 120 minutes it was still stalemate at 1-1 so that meant only one thing… penalties!
Brazil scraped through in a poor penalty shoot out in which only 5 out of 10 penalties were converted. I was especially impressed with Neymar who had the responsibility and pressure of taking Brazil’s final penalty. But it was Julio Cesar who was the hero and you could feel the huge sense of relief as Chile’s last penalty hit the post.
