It is hard to imagine what the World Cup would be like without the hosts and fortunately we still won’t know because Brazil edged out the impressive Colombia 2-1 in normal time on Friday evening.
However the win did come at a cost with star player, Neymar, who has carried his country so far, got injured and it was confirmed later that he would be out for the rest of the tournament. It was a bad challenge with him ending up with a fractured vertebrae and apparently the collision was a few centimetres away from paralysing him. He actually said to team mate Marcelo that he couldn’t feel his legs and was rushed to hospital in a helicopter. Apparently Fifa are looking into the challenge by the Colombia player.
It is such a shame for Neymar and Brazil and I think they will really struggle without him. To make matters worse their captain, Thiago Silva, is suspended for the semi final clash by getting another yellow card and he is crucial for them as well so that is two massive setbacks.
The losers Colombia had a good tournament with James Rodriguez starring for them with the goal of the tournament and he is currently the top scorer with 6 goals which Neymar can’t beat now! Also their goalkeeper Ospina along with many others had a very good tournament.
It was Brazil however who won the match through goals from captain Thiago Silva and player of the tournament according to Fifa David Luiz scoring the other and he will captain the side tomorrow. I personally want them to win it but I think Germany are a stronger side overall although Brazil have the home crowd and weather conditions so you never know.
Germany themselves won the earlier match in the day against France in a mouth watering heavyweight match. It was a close game with few chances and was settled by a headed goal from a free kick scored by German defender Mats Hummels. France had chances to equalise but couldn’t do it and Germany march on.
Special mention to Manuel Neuer who has been amazing almost playing as a defender with Germany’s very high line in defence as well as making crucial saves and looking very comfortable. He is the best keeper in the world for me and he will be key in the semi final for Germany who I think will actually win the competition.
