Pre season so far…

Along with all the transfers they have been some pre season games going on as well. Generally after a World Cup there is never as much time to prepare for the new league season as the players involved in the latter stages of the tournament don’t get to play in them because they are allowed a few weeks holiday!

This is the case for Arsenal who have German trio Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski in their team and they were obviously in it till the very end and so will miss the pre season games and maybe the first game of the season. Arsenal have done quite well in pre season with a new squad by beating the mighty Boreham Wood 2-0 but then losing to Legend Thierry Henry’s New York Red Bulls 1-0 in America.

In the ever present Emirates Cup which encourages goals in that you get a point for every goal you score along with the result they got off to a great start by beating Portuguese treble winners Benfica 5-1. French Striker Yaya Sanogo who had never scored for the club until the match surprisingly got 4 goals and promising striker Joel Campbell continued his World Cup confidence with a well taken goal. This left Arsenal with 8 points from their 1st game and certain to win the Cup! Valencia also took advantage of Benfica by beating them 3-1 adding to their 2-2 draw first game against Monaco so they ended up on 9 points meaning that Arsenal only needed one point to win! Unfortunately we couldn’t manage this and ended up losing 1-0 to Monaco with star striker Radamel Falcao scoring. This meant Valencia won and we finished second which was annoying after playing so well in the first game with a weakened side compared to the side that played Monaco.

Some positives though were that Alexis (Sanchez) got a great reception from the fans and looked very good even though he wasn’t fully fit along with Chambers playing very well in both games and a few youngsters staked a claim to Arsene Wenger with impressive performances. We now move on to the next game which is the FA Community shield match against league winners Manchester City which will be a tough match.

Other teams in the premier league have been involved in matches as well including the International Cup in America between Man. United, Man. City and Liverpool. Man United look very good under Louis Van Gaal by beating Real Madrid 3-1 in front of a crowd of more than 100,000 fans to get to the final against Liverpool which is better than they did last season with David Moyes in which he lost his first game and got off to a bad start as a result! Chelsea also lost 3-0 to Werder Bremen in which Mourinho complained about the referee after so no change from last season there!
