Controversy from the very start as former Arsenal player Alex Song seemed to score a perfect volley following a corner only for it to be disallowed. Everyone leapt in the air to celebrate including us (belatedly) only to see Santi Cazorla and other players running and continuing playing. We were probably the few people in the west ham crowd to be relieved!
The first half in general was dominated by west ham which made it nerve wracking to say the least! But arsenal surprisingly defended well and out of nowhere really Cazorla went down in the penalty box. It looked soft but the ref gave the penalty much to the home crowd’s annoyance. I was jumping inside but had to contain myself. We scored the penalty and then scored almost straight after with Welbeck. One fan around us (supposedly Arsenal) was taken away for some reason probably for riling up the home fans. The 1st half ended 0-2 and we only had had two shots on target!
After queuing for some food and drink at half time we were ready for the 2nd half. Unfortunately as expected so were west ham. They managed to score against us soon into the 2nd half which made the rest of the game very dramatic. They gave everything and we had many chances to finish the game off on the break. Wenger also brought on two defenders which invited even more pressure. Could he have brought on Walcott to kill the game? Their last chance in the last minute was so close to going in but we managed to hold on.
It was a very important victory for Arsenal as we went above them in the league, as well as all the teams around us dropping points!
Overall, my experience was amazing to see what it is like from other fans’ perspective. It was like being a spy and observing them. I also liked being so close to the players because it felt like you were involved as well.
We managed to get out unscathed and made our journey home following a memorable away day!
