Transfers – January Window

The January transfer window is well underway and as it is in its last week I wanted to give my thoughts on it.

My team Arsenal have never been very busy in the winter window with their only signing last year being Kim Kallstrom on loan! But this window is different as we desperately need a centre back and a defensive midfielder.

The centre back position is finally done as versatile Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista has signed but the defensive midfielder situation is a complex one. Wenger once again signed a young alternative in Krystian Bielik who is only 17 so he is one for the future but do we actually need to buy an older alternative? When Francis Coquelin came back from his loan spell with Charlton many thought what was the point but he has surprised everyone! His performance against Man City was outstanding and I think he is our solution which means we don’t have to spend anymore money. Wenger said he might sign others but who will it be?

In other news Man United have bought ex Barcelona player Victor Valdes as a second choice keeper, Man City have bought Wilfried Bony after the striker impressed from his time at Swansea, Sunderland have ex Spurs striker Jermain Defoe and possibly the biggest signing so far Yaya Sanogo signing for Crystal Palace on loan from Arsenal!

It has been rather quiet so far but as always it usually hots up at the end and many big deals are done on deadline day up until the very end. Who will be the late signings this year and will there be any shocks? Based on previous years anything can happen and I don’t think this year will be any different.
