Following Wednesday’s depressing result against Monaco in the champions league there’s only one way to bounce back, which is a win against Everton on Sunday.
Looking back to the Monaco game there was so much expectation to finally reach the quarter finals for the first time in 5 years and maybe even go even further like we did in 2006. This was just wishful thinking though as supposedly the weakest team in the competition Monaco pulled off a surprising win.
When the draw was made I for one along with many other arsenal fans cheered because I know it was our best chance for a while, having been drawn and losing against Barcelona and Bayern Munich in recent seasons. But Monaco showed that you shouldn’t underestimate anyone in football as they played the classic counter attacking football with 10 men behind the ball for the whole game. This wasn’t helped by us playing the worst we had played all season with Giroud in particular having a really bad game! The only positive was Chamberlain’s goal which gives us a bit of hope.
The game finished 3-1 to Monaco meaning they had 3 away goals which are so important in this competition. It leaves us with everything to do in the 2nd leg needing to score at least 3 goals. It is not impossible but very unlikely following recent seasons.
Looking forward Arsenal have a chance to redeem themselves against struggling Everton at home which I’m sure will be quite a hostile atmosphere at the Emirates. We are on a good run in the league being in 3rd position and we need to make sure we stay there.
My score prediction 2-0 to Arsenal with Giroud (redeeming himself) and Sanchez (as usual) scoring
