Premier League Preview

The new season starts today but who will win this year? Who will get relegated? Who will qualify for the Champions League and Europa League? Who will be the top scorer? Etc etc…

So many questions to be answered and so much to play for in the world’s best league. My predictions are (and I am not being biased) that Arsenal will win the league as they have had a great pre-season and are a much better team with the signing of Cech. If Benzema or another world class striker also join then I will believe this even more.

I am not the only person to believe this as I have heard a few pundits say they think this might be Arsenal’s year. Players like Ozil, Sanchez, Walcott, Cazorla, Ramsey, Chamberlain and Wilshere are all so talented but can they stay fit for most of the season? Wenger has built this squad and trusted them for many years and it is time that they finally deliver!

I do think though that Chelsea will be the team that will win it if we don’t as they also have a settled squad and have a great tactical manager even though it pains me to say it. A lot depends on the fitness of Diego Costa though because he often gets injured.

If Costa is out a lot then I don’t think Chelsea are the same team with Falcao or Remy which shows how important Costa is to them. But if he stays fit enough then it will be hard to bet against them and with Hazard and Fabregas playing behind him they are sometimes unplayable. Their defence is also probably the best but is it maybe starting to age as Terry and Ivanovic are in their 30’s and their legs might tire more?

The Manchester clubs should complete the top four with both spending a lot on new players and many wouldn’t be surprised if they won it as it is quite close between the top teams. Players like Aguero, Silva, Toure, Sterling and Kompany are world class and will make Man City real contenders.

For United players like Rooney, Depay, Mata, Schweinsteiger and maybe De Gea if he stays are also very good and they should also challenge. I think they both lack that unity in their squads though as they buy many new players every season and it takes time to adapt.

Liverpool will be the team that will also maybe challenge and hope that one of the top four teams struggle as they have bought players like Benteke, Firmino, Milner and Clyne who all improve their squad. A lot also depends on the fitness of Sturridge because he could form a great partnership with Benteke and Coutinho is also very good. The problem with them is though is that they have lost crucial players such as Suarez, Gerrard and Sterling in recent seasons and these are great players that are very hard to replace. Will they cope without them?

Other teams such as Spurs, Everton, Southampton, West Ham, Swansea, Stoke, Crystal Palace and Newcastle should all be safe from relegation as they are solid teams with quality and will probably challenge for the Europa league places and top ten.

Players like Kane will be crucial but was last season just a freak season for him? I unfortunately don’t think so but it will be hard for him to match it with more pressure on him this time.

Everton will also want to catch up with Liverpool again and they should with Lukaku, Barkley and Stones who are still young but have great potential as well as Baines, Jagielka and Coleman who are very reliable.

So that leaves the other teams who all have a chance of going down or maybe surprising everyone. The three new promoted teams will always find it tough as there is a big gap between the leagues but I think they are all actually quite strong.

Overall though, the new teams will probably struggle along with teams like Leicester, Aston Villa, West Brom and Sunderland who lack the quality that the other teams have. Leicester lost their manager who was crucial for them and Aston Villa lost their best players in Benteke and Delph. I think at least one of the new teams will go down along with Sunderland as they always just survive but this season I think is finally their time.

Finally the top scorer I think will again depend on their fitness but it has to be between Aguero and Costa but they do get injured a lot so who knows. Rooney also has a good chance as he is Man United’s main striker again. If Arsenal get Benzema then he could do it but will he adapt in his first season enough?

So much analysis, predictions and opinions but who knows what will happen and I’m sure that there will be many twists and surprises as well as new players as the transfer window is still very much open.

Bring on the new season!
