Liverpool v Arsenal Review: Game of the Season

What a game! In the past matches between Liverpool and Arsenal have always been good with a lot of goals and this match was definitely one of the best.

Liverpool are a different team under Klopp and despite their many injuries they still had a strong team. They started without a recognised striker but this didn’t affect them at all. Arsenal put out the strongest team they could with Mertesacker, Monreal and Özil returning.

Both teams are very attacking and perhaps don’t have the best defences so many expected a classic.

Liverpool started brightest and it took them only 10 minutes to break the deadlock through Firmino who was playing as their striker for the day and who scored the goal for Brazil at the Emirates when I was shown on TV!

This was a wake up call for us and  fortunately we hit back straight away (4 minutes) with our first attack and shot. Joel Campbell who is really playing well at the moment created it with an Özil like assist for Ramsey to score the equaliser.

So 1-1 and both teams looked like scoring from every attack. This was proved once again as 5 minutes later Liverpool took the lead for the second time. It was Firmino again but this time it was a great long range curler which Cech couldn’t save.

The game was crazy and Arsenal hit back again just over 5 minutes later this time through Giroud. A corner was whipped in and Giroud managed to get a vital touch on it to make it 2-2. What a game it was and it wasn’t even 30 minutes in!

The last 15 minutes were relatively calm compared to the start and it stayed at 2-2 until half time.

The second half started as the first half started as their was a goal after just 10 minutes but this time it was us who took the lead for the first time in the game through Giroud again. This goal showed his class as he turned a defender and finished well into the bottom corner.

So 3-2 to us and if it had stayed like this it would have been a great result. However, after the goal we started defending our lead and were holding on, until at the end we invited too much pressure. We brought on Arteta for Ozil to close out the game but it didn’t help as Liverpool managed to score a last minute equaliser to make it 3-3.

It was annoying that we couldn’t quite hold on but a draw was the fair result as both teams played well and neither really deserved to lose.

Some could say two points dropped but I think it was a point gained and we are still top but only on goal difference now as Leicester beat Spurs. Man City also drew so we stay three points ahead of them.

Next up is Stoke away and every Arsenal fan knows that it will be really tough. Let’s hope it’s not too wet and windy!
