What a way to start the tournament. It took a while to get started but it was definitely well worth the wait!
France dominated the game as you would expect but it stayed 0-0 until half time. They really went for it in the second half though and it was an Arsenal man who got the first goal of the tournament in Giroud. It came from a great Payet cross and it was a typical Giroud header.
Romania then shocked everyone when Evra gave away a penalty and they took full advantage to go level.
It looked to be a frustrating draw for France until the moment of magic came and I will definitely always say that I was there when Payet scored that goal.
It was a great goal and I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out to be the goal of the tournament. Payet was definitely the man of the match as well and he will be so important for them if they are to go on and win.
So the score ended 2-1 to the hosts and a win was all that mattered for the home fans. The atmosphere was amazing from start to finish and it was the perfect way to get the tournament up and running!
Next stop Marseille…
