Arsenal v Liverpool Review

The first game of the season and already I couldn’t go – in contrast to last season when I went to every single home game. However James did go and I was able to watch it in a sports bar in Ibiza!

What a game it was as both teams went  all out attack and the defences were weak. We had Holding and Chambers as our centre backs so it wasn’t surprising that we struggled with their lack of experience.

The game started well with Walcott first missing a penalty (everyone knew he would) before making amends very soon after with a good finish.

We looked to be heading into half time 1-0 up before a sensational Coutinho free kick put Liverpool level in the 45th minute. Cech could do nothing about it and it was very frustrating as this goal was crucial.

The second half was a different story as Liverpool came out fighting and took us by surprise. First Lallana put them ahead before Coutinho scored his second and then new signing Mane scored an incredible 4th in what was a crazy spell in the game.

Credit to us though as we fought back straight away with a good solo goal from Chamberlain to give us some hope and then another Englishman, Chambers, scored our third with 15 minutes to go to make it 3-4.

I really thought we would get the equaliser but unfortunately it didn’t come and Liverpool managed to hang on to a great first day of the season result.

Our new signing Granit Xhaka came on off the bench to make his debut but he struggled to get into the game and fouled a lot. He will need time to adjust to the premier league but I think he will be very good for us.

The result definitely showed that we needed a new experienced centre back (if we didn’t know that already) and it wasn’t going to get any easier as we next face last year’s surprise winners Leicester!
