What an emotional few weeks it’s been at Arsenal! Arsene Wenger has managed his last game for the club and I still can’t believe it!
I’m so pleased that the team was able to win both his last home game against Burnley (5-0) and his last away game (yes we actually finally won away!) as well as last game of the season against Huddersfield (1-0).
Aubameyang was the last signing he made, the last scorer at the Emirates in his final game and also the last player to score for him in any game! His stats have been very impressive since joining, scoring 10 goals in 12 games. Will he be the top scorer in the league next season?
Hopefully Aubameyang can continue to perform next season along with his striker partner Lacazette who’s been in good form as well ending the season as our top scorer (17 goals). In this uncertain time at the club, one thing for certain is that we don’t need a new striker this summer!
Within the last day it’s been announced that Santi Cazorla (yes, he’s still alive!) has left the club after 6 years. I am very sad about this (almost as much as Wenger) and it’s a shame he didn’t get the send off he deserved. He was told by the doctor that he’d be lucky to walk again so I suppose it was only a matter of time before he left.
I’ll never forget his sensational free kick in the 2014 FA Cup final which got us back into the game (2-0 down at the time) and helped us win our first trophy in 9 years! He was also crucial to the team going forward and since he got injured we really haven’t been the same team and have struggled a lot as a result.
He will be missed a lot along with Wenger and Mertesacker and it definitely feels like the end of an era.
With Mertesacker it was so good to see him play well in his last game against Burnley. He came on to a deserved reception and didn’t put a foot wrong. Every touch he made was greeted by cheers and although he hasn’t played too much recently, you can tell he’s been a good captain and an important player to have in the dressing room.
We need more players like him who are leaders and surely we will try and replace him this summer with a new centre back especially as current captain Koscielny is injured as well. Who will we sign?
So exciting times ahead but this season’s definitely been one that I will always remember for the right and wrong reasons.
Thanks for all the memories Arsene, Per and Santi, I will miss you!
